Microsoft kills Xbox video content for Windows Phone 7 starting February 2014

Microsoft has announced some improvements to its Xbox video catalogue. Great news, because, “this update will allow us to more quickly and efficiently add the highest quality video content to the Xbox Video service”, says the official wording.

How about collateral damage? Yes! Sadly, “as a result, beginning in late February 2014, any Xbox Video content you own as of then, will no longer be playable through the Zune PC client, Zune devices, or Windows Phone 7 devices.” Microsoft apologizes for the inconvenience and lets all Windows Phone 7.x users still using the Zune app that content can be enjoyed at XboxVideo.com, on your Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8 & 8.1 PC and tablet, or Windows Phone 8.

If you have not used your Windows Phone 7 for video you should be just fine, as this doesn’t affect you. But how about those who invested in video content? Let us know if you’re one of the affected, and your thoughts, of course.
