Just a couple of weeks ago, we all waited and forgot about BBM reaching iOS and Android, since first of all it didn’t happen, and second, it’s not like if we had any buddies left in the platform. The company has gained and lost buyers in the last couple of weeks, and it all seemed like if the cross-platform BBM project was silently abandoned in favor of securing an economic future.
All the drama came to an end two days ago, or at least part of it, as the app was finally launched on both iOS and Android at the same time, and if you thought that people didn’t really care about BBM, think again. This app is currently the top download on iOS, and it’s reaching the top of the chart on Android as well, and that’s because it garnered more than 10 million downloads in 24 hours. It’s also gotten some very positive reviews, which I actually agree on since it is quite reliable and snappy on iOS, for example. It seems that the app has been well tuned for iOS 7, up to the point where I don’t really sense any refresh times when you launch it.
Sadly, not everything is fun and games, as these 10 million downloads haven’t really translated to 10 million users being active, as BlackBerry’s servers are still being slammed and have a long list of people still waiting. Other services like BBM Video, Voice and Channels didn’t make it to the initial release as well, but we should expect these to arrive on future updates.
Did you get BBM? Tell us how you feel about it in the comments.
