Nokia seems to confirm 1080p displays with release of Glance Background app

Have you received your Nokia Amber update by now? Got to playing around with the Glance Screen? It’s already pretty darn useful, but now it gets a little fancier, too, with the release of the Glance Background beta app. In releasing it, though, did Nokia just confirm the presence of 1080p displays on upcoming models like the 1520?

Don’t get us wrong – it’s not that anyone’s particularly doubting that we’re about to see Nokia cross that 1080p threshold – but it’s still interesting to see such evidence come from the company itself, rather than through the usual leaks and rumors.

Glance Background basically lets you customize a background image for the Glance Screen. In the Windows Phone Store, everything looks normal, but saunter on over to the Nokia Beta Labs site, and you’ll find some very high-res screenshots.

There are quite a few 1920 x 1080 shots, with filenames indicating they were taken on October 2. We also see a single 3556 x 2000 image, but not specifically named as a screenshot. At the least, that aspect ratio is still 16:9.

We poked around a few other Nokia Beta Labs apps, and the highest-res screenshots there top out at 1280 x 768.
