While we all know that BlackBerry Messenger is coming to iOS and Android, the details have been anything but certain. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Samsung already start getting in to promoting BBM in Africa, heard any number of rumored dates for the release of these apps, and even seen some fakes make it to app stores. We may finally be getting to the end of this tale soon, as rumors talk about a possible launch schedule in just the next couple days.
According to this info, Android’s going to get the ball rolling this Friday, with the app becoming available at 7AM Eastern. Supposedly, the iOS version of BBM would then follow suit, showing up overnight as we move into Saturday.
After all the hype, with BBM developing this reputation as the great messaging service that most of us just didn’t have access to, expectations are going to be appropriately high. Will Android and iOS users be suitably impressed, or are we just going to get a lot of “thanks, but we already have WhatsApp” reactions? If this news is on the money, we may begin to get a sense of the reactions by sometime next week.
Update: Blackberry has just made the news official, though the timing is slightly off from the rumor: the Android port arrives this Saturday, September 21, while the iOS version comes on Sunday.
