By the look of things, we’re only a few weeks away from the arrival of the first smartphones running Windows Phone 8 GDR3, bringing those features like 1080p and quad-core SoC support that we’ve been expecting for a while now. Even further out, we’ve been anticipating the launch of Windows Phone 8.1, which has popped up in rumors from time to time as Microsoft’s codename Blue. Today we get to see some new images purportedly depicting this software, and hear a little about its functionality.
All this info comes from a new source, creating a Twitter account on Saturday but really taking off with leaks as of today. As a new source, we can’t yet say how accurate any of this info may be, but there’s enough of it here to make us optimistic that it might be trusted – time will tell.
A vertical triptych (click to the right for full-sized) seems to suggest we’ll be seeing notifications up top, access to things like settings and sharing options from the side, and possibly even that Cortana voice assistant appear from the bottom of the screen. There’s also talk about shortcuts, like a long press on the Windows button to bring up Cortana, a double-tap to check notifications, or a double-tap on the back button to kill an app.
Beyond that, we also get a quick look an updated settings for the Kid’s Corner and a shot seeming to reveal these leaks as coming from the Chinese version of the Lumia 820.
