This time last year, Apple fans had just heard the company announce the iPhone 5, just like we saw the iPhone 5S and 5C go official for themselves earlier this week. Back then, Jimmy Kimmel wanted to have a little fun with people who might not have been paying that much attention to the announcement, and set out a film crew to try convincing people on the street that the old iPhone 4S was actually the new iPhone 5. Suffice it to say, plenty of folks seemed pretty oblivious. Now Kimmel’s back at his old tricks, trying to see if he can once again pull one over on some unsuspecting people.
“But wait,” you say, “that’s not fair. The new 5S is the same size as the iPhone 5. Of course people will be confused!”
Well, that would be true… if that’s what Kimmel was up to. Instead, his crew tries to convince passersby that last year’s iPad Mini – all eight inches of it – is actually the new iPhone.
You can check out their reactions in the clip below. A surprising number of people seem to praise the new “sleeker,” “smaller” design, and the power of suggestion even convinces one woman that Apple’s delivered a iPhone with a flavored screen you can lick.
