Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) press release leaks in advance of tomorrow’s launch
Sony’s big IFA event takes place tomorrow, and with the teasers the company’s been publishing, there’s been little doubt that it would launch the phone we’ve been following as codename Honami. While there’s still plenty to look forward to from tomorrow’s event, including the details on those Smart Short lens camera accessories, the cat may already be out of the bag when it comes to Honami, as the official Sony press release announcing the phone seems to have leaked a day early.
Assuming this is legitimate – and it certainly has the trappings of a Sony press release – Honami will see its commercial launch as the Xperia Z1. We’ve heard many of the specs mentioned here before, but it’s nice to finally see them all confirmed like this. Those include the presence of a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, a five-inch 1080p display, 16GB flash storage (expandable via microSD), 2GB of RAM, a 20.7-megapixel main camera, and a 3000mAh battery. The Z1 should be available in those same three black, white, and purple colors we’ve seen leaked, and will measure 8.5 millimeters thick.
That camera has a big 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and features an f/2.0 aperture. A burst mode will capture over 60 images in the span of just two seconds. Sony also plays up the handset’s dust- and water-proofing, some of the many features we’ve seen it tease over Twitter.
The release also mentions those lens-cameras, though not with the “Smart Shot” name, making us wonder if that rumor, at least, missed the mark.
Sony says the Xperia Z1 will be available globally beginning sometime this month.
