Later this year, we’re expecting Microsoft to release the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update, delivering support for quad-core chips, 1080p screens, and bringing us that notification center we just looked at. Just as Lumia phones received special Amber software updates from Nokia alongside the arrival of GDR2, a new leak seems to suggest a similar plan may be in motion for GDR3, this time going by the name “Bittersweet Shimmer.”
At least, that seems like the most likely explanation for the above screenshot, leaked by a tipster who’s been providing info about GDR3. Bittersweet Shimmer may sound bizarre, but in Crayola’s world it’s actually a color, a variety of orange. That has us thinking that maybe Nokia’s going for its own alphabetical procession of software releases (all Android-style) named after colors: Amber, Bittersweet Shimmer… Cerulean, maybe?
We also hear about a rumored app that would be part of this update, called Appetite and designed to showcase apps for Nokia’s phones, along with providing news on upcoming releases.
