It may have taken four months longer than any of the other major US carriers, but Verizon finally adds the HTC One to its lineup today. Though we’ve seen plenty of interesting hardware launch in the interim since the One first made its debut this spring, Verizon’s still the biggest player in the game over here, and a phone joining the carrier’s lineup – even after delays like this – is still a major deal. While Verizon’s now offering the One for about $200 on-contract, it looks like there’s already a better offer to be found, and from a source we’re still not quite yet used to.
Remember back in May, when Verizon had its press event at the CTIA expo? We won’t blame you if it slipped your mind, because we didn’t end up getting to see any new hardware. The one noteworthy development that did get announced was Viva Movil, the Jennifer-Lopez-affiliated brand created to spur sales of Verizon devices in Spanish-speaking communities. As luck would have it, while Verizon wants $200 for the the One, Viva Movil will hook you up for more like $100.
That price is good for new as well as returning Verizon subscribers, so if you’ve already waited long enough for a Verizon HTC One and just need to snag one today, this looks like it’s going to be your best deal.
Then again, while Viva Movil is very clear about that pricing, the way it’s selling the One is just a little weird – like how this describes the One running Android 4.1.2, while we know Verizon’s getting it with 4.2.2. Or how in the phone’s image gallery, the renders clearly depict the AT&T HTC One, complete with that carrier’s own logo. We’re guessing someone just goofed when grabbing the imagery to use, but it’s not inconceivable that errors extend further into this listing – if that’s indeed the case, we’d recommend jumping at that $100 offer now before someone “corrects” it back to $200. Or heck, maybe JLo actually will emerge from all this as queen of the best deals around on smartphones.
Update: Well, either that cheap price just sparked a wave of orders or someone’s in the process of trying to undo something here, because Viva Movil’s Verizon HTC One is now marked as “out of stock.” For the moment, the price is unchanged, but if you can’t place an order, it’s a bit of a moot point. The imagery has also been updated, now properly showing the phone with Verizon badging.
Update 2: Now we’re getting redirects back to the site’s main page, but the good news is that this deal now looks totally official, though for a limited time only:
