Latest iPhone 5C leak takes us up close and personal with handset in red

Based on all the leaked images of phone components that we’ve laid our eyes on so far, it sure looks like the rumored plastic, more affordable iPhone – recently associated with the name iPhone 5C – will arrive in an assortment of colors. We’re not expecting anything so extravagant as what Motorola is up to with the Moto X, but there should still be a handful of options available. Today we get a closer look at one, the iPhone 5C in red.

Now, we’ve been expecting a red version of the phone already; it’s appeared in previous leaks, alongside yellow, blue, white, and green models. While this time we only get the red phone alone, we can see a lot more than we had in previous leaks, including an inside shot, with shielding and mounting hardware visible.

While such a colorful assortment will be a new step for Apple with its smartphone lineup, it’s hardly the first time the company has gone down this road, and products ranging from the iPod touch, to iMacs of years past, have been available in a rainbow of hues. Now we wait for this fall, when we hope to see the iPhone 5C (or whatever it ends up being called) go official, and learn if these five colors we know of will be it, or if there could be some others that just haven’t leaked yet.
