It almost looked like it wasn’t going to happen: along with suggestions like the Moto X might let users specify how much RAM they wanted, or choose a metal body for their handset, the idea that users could choose wood as a material for the phone’s facade seemed almost too crazy to believe. Indeed, it dropped-out as rumors turned to just simple color options, instead, but still found itself being mentioned again and again as a distant possibility. Today we learned the truth, and saw that wood options will indeed be a part of the design choices available to Moto X customers. Watch as we go hands-on with one of these unique smartphones.

It’s not just one wood option, either: there should be a whole rainbow (as it were) of different stains, patterns, and tones. While these won’t be part of the Moto X’s retail launch plans, look for them in the months to come.
