The Nokia Lumia 1020, formerly known as the Lumia 909, formerly known as the Nokia EOS, formerly known as the biggest and brightest rainbow unicorn in all of Windows Phone land … is here. The 41MP smartphone arrived at the Boston offices a short while ago, courtesy of the fine folks at AT&T, and it’s been waiting patiently to be removed from its packaging ever since. Now, thanks to the magic of editing-assisted time travel and just the barest suspension of disbelief, you can come along for the ride, “live,” as we free the Lumia 1020 from its carrier-branded cardboard and power it on for the first time!
There’s more to it than that, of course; between breaking the seal and first power-on lies a tour of the box contents. Normally that’s a formality some folks are all too happy to skip, but let us recommend that you let the video play through this time around. What’s inside the box won’t shock or stun, but it does provide slight evidence of this phone’s special nature, as well as a warm reminder of a time when phones used to come packaged with so much more.
But you’re not here for a trip down memory lane; you’re here to watch the screen protectors come off the finest camera phone in history. So plug in and plop down; the Nokia Lumia 1020 is here, and it ain’t going nowhere till you gaze upon its all-seeing 41MP eyeball.
