Apple’s numbers are not the only financial figures reported; LG has also made its data available today. LG Q2 numbers show revenue at KRW 15.23 trillion (USD 13.58 billion), up 10% from the same period last year. While up from the previous quarter, the operating profit of KRW 479 billion (USD 426.92 million) and net profit of KRW 156 billion (USD 139.04 million), is down from the same period last year. While these figures are combined, LG Mobile Communications Company reported revenues of KRW 3.12 trillion (USD 2.78 billion), up 34.5% from Q2 2012, and an operating profit increase year-over-year to KRW 61 billion (USD 54.37 million), however, down from the previous quarter. Slower demand in Korean market, lower average selling price due to increased competition, and higher marketing investments, are mentioned as causes.
As far as sales are concerned, LG is reporting 12.1 million smartphones sold, between April and June, a number specifically being called out as “the highest ever in the company’s history”. The upcoming LG G2 is already mentioned, alongside the G Pro, as high-end products which “should increase the company’s product competitiveness.”
