For a company that’s been so enthusiastic about releasing a colorful assortment of smartphones, Nokia’s latest Lumia 1020 sure feels like it comes up a little short, available only in yellow or neutral notes. That’s what made it so interesting to see the above render arrive this morning, apparently showing off the 1020 in red.
At least, that may be what we’re looking at. The tweet @evleaks used to publish the picture sure seems to insinuate that even he may be unsure as to whether or not this reflects any plans to actually produce such a model – or even if the render is official.
For what it’s worth, this is clearly a 1020 and not just a red 920 that’s received the Pro Cam app: the 920 features AT&T’s name beside its logo, different front-facer placement, and a lower earpiece.
So, sadly, we’re no closer to knowing if Nokia actually intends to augment its 1020 models with some new color options, nor when it might do so. Still: sure is pretty, isn’t it? We suppose the big question now is whether or not it’s worth holding out on a 1020 purchase to see if models like this ultimately arrive. At some point, you may just have to go with what’s available.
