Facebook may announce Instagram video, to compete with Vine

Twitter’s Vine has found itself becoming one of the bigger hits of 2013, and after iOS users getting all the fun of posting their short clips online for months, there’s now an Android Vine release to get even more users in on the action. Despite the good times so far, Vine may have a bit of a fight in store for it, as some rumors suggest that Facebook is nearly ready to announce a big new feature for Instagram, bringing the same sort of short video support to the app.

What we do know for sure is that Facebook has an event coming up this Thursday, where it’s expected to announce a new product or service – and we imagine the Vine-ification of Instagram would qualify. There’s already been loose talk about just such an Instagram overhaul, but little to suggest how serious work on video support really was, nor when we might expect to see it added.

If this is true, we still have plenty of questions – would there be new video effect filters? Just how long would these clips be? And as far as mobile support goes, which platform(s) could hope to see this release arrive first?
