Huawei’s Windows Phone tease suggests the Ascend W2 could be waterproof

Waterproofing is definitely one of the hotter smartphone features around in 2013, and we’re seeing it come to an increasing number of models. Today we may get a new handset to add to the ranks of the GS4 Active and the Xperia Z, as the new teaser image Huawei posted to one of its Facebook accounts sure seems to imply that the company has a waterproof Windows Phone handset nearly ready to launch.

While Huawei doesn’t name the phone, we’re almost certainly talking about the Ascend W2, which we’ve seen in a number of leaks over the past several weeks. Specs for the handset have already leaked, revealing components like a 4.3-inch 720p screen and 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, but so far there hadn’t been any mention of waterproofing.

Now, we suppose the message behind the image above could be something else entirely – that the Ascend W2 will “make a big splash” upon its arrival or something of that nature – but our gut’s telling us this is about waterproofing. In any case, we should know for sure soon, as Huawei makes it clear that this model is set to launch sometime this month.
