With the major announcements behind us from Android- and Windows Phone-land, it’s time for the rumor-mill to focus on Apple’s upcoming devices, at least until the fall when we’ll hear new rumors about Samsung, HTC, Nokia, and the others, as we get closer to IFA 2013. For now, the hear-say is mentioning the next Apple iPad.
Your usual “sources with Taiwan’s supply chain” have it on good authority that the next Apple iPad trial production will begin soon for the full-sized 9.7-inch slate. Volume production is claimed to start in July “with monthly shipments ramping up to 2-3 million units in September”. Apparently the resolution is kept at the same “retina” numbers but the next iPad’s screen will feature a new technology with glass substrate thinner than the one on the iPad 4, at 0.2mm. The next Apple slate is expected to be much lighter than its predecessor but we’ll definitely hear more reports as we’ll get closer to that (yet unannounced) event.
