Galaxy S 4 grabs Consumer Reports top spot

Millions of shoppers turn to Consumer Reports for unbiased, in-depth comparisons to help them shop for anything from cars to chainsaws. That includes smartphones, and we’ve looked at the company’s ratings a number of times in the past. CR recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S 4, and found itself so enamored with the smartphone that it gave the handset its ranking top-spot.

Previously, that first place smartphone slot was inhabited by the LG Optimus G. Despite being a solid phone, it’s not a particularly popular model, so it’s really almost surprising to see it hold on to “best smartphone” for as long as it did.

While you’ll need to be a subscriber to get access to Consumer Reports’s full GS4 review, the announcement of the GS4’s ascension mentions a number of features the company found compelling, including the IR blaster, extra-sensitive touch screen, and software features like Samsung’s Multi Window View mode.
