Google I/O Delivers New Key Lime Pie Teasers
Despite our expectations, Google I/O 2013 failed to deliver a new version of Android. As we’ve discussed, that wasn’t so much of a big deal, as we got plenty of improvements to services without needing a whole new Android build, but has left us wondering: just when might Key Lime Pie get here? We’ve seen evidence showing Android 4.3 in testing, and rumors have suggested that it could arrive sometime next month. We wait to learn if that will indeed come to pass, but in the meantime a couple little hints have surfaced in the wake of Google I/O that remind us that Key Lime Pie is still in our future.
The image up top comes from one of Reto Meier’s Google I/O talks on app development. About mid-way through the video (linked-to as the source below) a short animation plays featuring an Android eating what sure looks like a slice of lime-green pie.
Later, three-quarters of the way through the same video, we see another animation, this time featuring a Final Fantasy V/VI-like RPG battle. One of the forces the magician character can summon, in addition to Chrome or Jelly Bean, is Key Lime Pie, spelled-out plain as day.
Perhaps Google was once planning to intro KLP at the event but later changed its course, or employees like Meier simply want to give us a little tease at what’s still to come.
