The HTC One is so exciting because it delivers a whole bunch of new ideas, all in one package. From the metal build, to the UltraPixel camera, to the stereo Boom Sound speakers, there are a lot of things HTC is trying to do differently. We’ve wondered how many of these might find a home in future HTC devices, and now we’re starting to get our first look, upon HTC model 606w appearing in a Chinese phone database.
Right away you’ll notice those dual speaker grilles framing the phone’s face, giving away the presence of Boom Sound. That’s just the start of it, though, as this 606w is believed to be the HTC M4 we heard about earlier this month – the phone that would be a non-Facebook version of the HTC First. That model was supposed to get an upgrade to an UltraPixel camera, meaning that if true, the 606w could have yet another feature pulled right from the One.
Now sure, with specs like a 1.2GHz SoC and 1GB of RAM, this is solidly a mid-range device, but while it won’t be a speed demon, performance will likely be just fine for your average user.
The one thing we’re concerned about is the display. This database entry mentions a 4.5-inch qHD screen, while we’ve heard that the M4 would have the First’s 4.3-inch 720p component. That has us wondering if this couldn’t just be something else entirely – so maybe no UltraPixel camera. In any case, for now this is all going to be stuck in China, so it could still be a while before we see some of these One features come to other HTC devices internationally.
Update: Translation of the original docs confirms a quad-core SoC, making it sound even less likely that the 606w is directly related to the M4.
