April 19 is the official date at which those interested in the AT&T flavor of the HTC One can get their unit but there were some lucky owners that managed to get the device early. A couple of these One users took it to XDA Developer forums to share their bootloader unlocking method and success.
HTC will unlock the bootloader of the AT&T One via its HTCDev website. There are two downsides though: first, upon unlocking, you will lose all your data. Second, after unlocking, some apps (Calculator, Flashlight, Ringtone Trimmer and Sound Recorder) are being wiped, which, by itself, is no biggy, but your phone apparently won’t be able to receive OTA updates as it will fail verification checks (or at least one user is reporting this issue). HTC might sort this out in the future (and we sure hope it will be not by banning AT&T HTC Ones from the service).
