With T-Mobile’s announcement of their iPhone 5 and support for HD voice over LTE, it was only a matter of time before other carriers began doing the same. AT&T Senior VP Kris Rinne just confirmed that the carrier will also bring this same service later this year.
HD Voice is sadly not something that works on every LTE device. Only certain devices like the iPhone 5 support it, and then obviously the network has to take the lap to offer it as well. According to Rinne, this is part of AT&T’s Voice-Over-LTE Strategy.
AT&T has definitely done a lot of great work in enhancing their 4G LTE network in the past two years, and since the quality of their voice calls has never been highly praised, it makes a ton of sense for them to push this service next. Sprint has also confirmed their plans to offer the service, so we’ll see who reaches customers first.
