Apple Distributes iOS 6.1.3 Update; Jailbreakers, Beware!

About a month ago, we saw Apple release a beta version of iOS 6.1.3 to its developers, delivering a fix for the lock screen bypass that had been publicized a week prior. Today Apple finally makes that fix public with the official release of iOS 6.1.3, but users who have been enjoying the new evasi0n jailbreak will want to steer clear.

Beyond simply this lock screen fix, iOS 6.1.3 delivers those improvements to Apple Maps in Japan that we’ve heard about since the start of this beta cycle. The most significant change isn’t on the official changelog, however, as we had heard that the 6.1.3 beta fixes a key vulnerability used by the evasi0n jailbreak, rendering it ineffective.

If you were as fascinated as us by the evasi0n jailbreak and had read up on how it functions, iOS 6.1.3 reportedly corrects the exploit involving the system’s time zone settings file, which was the very first step in the chain of things that had to go right for the jailbreak to work; without that starting point, the whole operation falls apart.

So, jailbreaking fans, steer clear; everyone else, enjoy!

Update: That’s not all – it looks like Apple fixed four specific bugs uncovered by jailbreaking efforts.
