When will we get a chance to see some new BlackBerry models? And not the Q10, either – what about some new hardware that hasn’t even been announced yet? While Sprint will get the Q10 along with everyone else in a couple months, the carrier has decided to opt out from selling the full touch Z10. Now a new rumor claims that Sprint will indeed offer a full touch BlackBerry, but one that’s not the Z10.
According to “a source familiar with the situation,” Sprint will get this mystery BlackBerry phone later this year, and rather than a simple variant on Z10 hardware, it will supposedly be a fully new model.
That’s very interesting, because we heard from Thorsten Heins himself back when BlackBerry 10 was launched that the company was looking at product cycles that would be 12 to 15 months long, strongly suggesting that there wouldn’t be any new BlackBerry phones beyond the Z10 and Q10 until mid-2014.
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that we’ve had to think twice about BlackBerry possibly revising its position on additional phones this year, after hearing Heins talk about new BB10 models just last week, in the context of developing more budget-friendly hardware. Has BlackBerry fully moved away its previous comments on future device scheduling?
