Rumors tried to anticipate the launch of the next iPhone — possibly the 5S — alongside follow-ups to current tablets but recent speculation is looking at the iPhone 6, the next big iteration after the S-upgrade. The theory is farfetched but it claims that the next major Apple phone could be shipping with a stylus. This is particularly strange because it was Apple who strongly advocated against the stylus and in favor of using the finger to interact with the phone. However, thanks to Samsung, the modern concept of the stylus is rather different than what it was back in the day.
The theory seems to have appeared after pattern submissions by Apple and some speculate that the accessory could only be used as a mini scanner for barcodes and for motion gesture passwords.
On a slightly related note, another patent appears to be addressing the home button. Whether Apple will ditch it in the future or not is yet unknown but the patent seems to describe “a system that could measure and react to different amounts of pressure applied to a device’s external casing”. Pressure sensitive casing could replace, in theory, the home button, but it could also come with a couple of downsides (just think pockets). Oh, and will we see the new “iScale” application for weighs below 500gr.?
