By now, a lot of you who have held on to your old Windows Phone 7 smartphones have upgraded to WP7.8, either by means of the update officially coming down through your carrier, or by taking matters into your own hands. Still, there are plenty of users out there who have been waiting patiently for their updates to arrive, and for some of them the wait may have just gotten a little longer, upon reports arriving that Microsoft has put a halt to the update’s distribution.
A moderator on Vodafone’s German forums recently posted the news that Microsoft has stopped its plans for the update’s distribution until further notice. While she doesn’t go into detail on just why Microsoft may have made this decision, speculation has tied this action to some of the issues users have noticed with WP7.8, especially concerning the functionality of the new live tile system.
If Microsoft really is working on an updated version of WP7.8, we’re hoping it gets here sooner rather than later, as loyal WP7 users have already been waiting far too long to see their platform updated. For now, at least, there’s no ETA available.
