ZTE Open, Firefox OS Smartphone, Specs Revealed
Last month we got word of the first two smartphones announced for the upcoming Firefox OS, a pair of low-end models from GeeksPhone. Today at the MWC, a new Firefox phone has been revealed, and this time from a bit more well-known of a manufacturer.
The ZTE Open will be the company’s first Firefox OS model, but like those GeeksPhone handsets, it’s definitely on the lower end of the spectrum. While it can be difficult to get excited about models like this, we’re still intrigued to be seeing a new platform arrive, and if ZTE can manage to make this phone super-cheap in the process, it might be worth a passing glance.
Like the GeeksPhone Keon, ZTE’s Open has a 3.5-inch HVGA screen. From there, though it’s all downhill, and the Open’s specs drop to a mere 256MB of RAM, 512MB flash storage, and a Snapdragon S1 processor, running at 800MHz or less. It will arrive with a 3.2-megapixel camera, and should be available in three localizations with different 3G band support.
With specs like these, ZTE had better price the Open incredibly aggressively.
