Video calls are a great way to take advantage of all the technology that goes into your smartphone, from tiny high-resolution cameras to speedy LTE radios. Problem is, they’re not exactly the most convenient thing to just jump into at any moment (similar to how text messaging became so preferable to phone calls for many of us). In order to still give you some of the benefits video calls while letting both you and whomever you’re calling do things on your own schedule, Skype has just introduced video messaging.

You can think of it like a voicemail, but on video. Leave a message up to three minutes long, and the party you’re calling can get back to you later. Since you don’t need to see them while you’re recording, this means you can use your phone’s rear camera just as easily as its front-facer.

As of today, video messaging is supported on Skype for Android, iOS, and Macs, but oddly not on Windows now Windows Phone, despite Microsoft owning the company. Supposedly, the feature will come to additional platforms in time.
