When we got the chance to check out an image from a recent Nokia Pakistan launch event yesterday, one showing-off what appeared to be a Windows 8 tablet alongside a Nokia Lumia smartphone, we had our doubts. At the time, we didn’t want to dismiss it outright, having just seen what appeared to be an inadvertent leak from Nokia Russia, but at the same time it felt like a stretch – as we noted then, this tablet was itself right next to a desktop version of Windows 8, and we certainly weren’t about to read that as confirmation that Nokia was entering the PC game. Now Nokia’s had the chance to comment on the rumor, and its statement shouldn’t be much of a surprise: there’s nothing to see here.
MyNokiaBlog heard back from Nokia about the rumor, and the the company replied that those pictures were not supposed to be any Nokia-specific products, but merely representations of Microsoft’s various user interfaces.
That’s probably good then that we didn’t get our hopes up too high, and it’s nice to hear Nokia put this rumor to rest, rather than refusing to comment and leave us all hanging. Nokia could still make a tablet one day, but don’t hold your breath.
