It sure sounded like the evad3rs team was aiming to launch its evasi0n iOS 6.x jailbreak yesterday, on Super Bowl Sunday, but if you managed to sneak away from the game to check out the release’s status, you’d have found that it still wasn’t quite ready. Luckily, the extra wait has been minimal, and just a few moments ago the evasi0n jailbreak finally went live.
There are installer programs available for Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, supporting Apple devices running iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and the most recent, 6.1. Unlike previous tethered iOS 6 jailbreak solutions, evasi0n is not stopped by hardware featuring Apple’s latest chipsets, and your iPhone 5, iPad 3 or 4, and iPad mini should all work without a hitch.
Of course, standard jailbreak warnings apply – be sure to back up your data in advance, and while there’s every indication that this process is safe, and can always be undone by restoring a backup in iTunes, realize that you’re using your phone or tablet in a way that’s contrary to what Apple intended. That said, enjoy this new-found freedom for your iOS 6 devices.
