With all the rumors and leaked pics, HTC’s next flagship, the M7, has felt like it’s nearly about to go official, and with the Mobile World Congress coming up in just a month, it seemed like the perfect venue for HTC to make the phone public. Then again, MWC threatens to be quite the crowded shindig, and maybe HTC wants to give the M7 the attention the handset rightfully seems to deserve. A new rumor seems to support that line of thinking, claiming that HTC will announce the M7 at a separate event the week before MWC 2013.
A tweet from an Italian smartphone aficionado with “connections in the field” claims that HTC will be throwing a pre-MWC event on February 19, likely to take place in London. Just a few days ago, he was posting about his expectations to see the phone at the MWC, so this sounds like late-breaking info.
On its face, this isn’t an entirely preposterous idea, but if this is indeed what HTC is planning to do, we’d expect to see invitations to this February 19 even start heading out within the next week or so. If that doesn’t come to pass, it’s going to look more and more likely that HTC will wait for the MWC.
