It started off as a rumor initially, coming from people “familiar with the matter”, but it seems to have stuck. Motorola is rumored to be working hard on a certain “X Phone”, and we’re led to believe that it will be a super-Android. More recent reports are bringing the X Phone back in the headlines, this time with new alleged info.
According to the report the phone will be a 5-inch, edge-to-edge, no-bezel, device. While not a Nexus device, the new theory claims that this will be the first phone from Motorola which will be a cross-carrier-branded device, hence the “X”.
That doesn’t stop here! Apparently the Motorola X will be the first phone to arrive with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and it will be announced together with the new platform at Google I/O. It would be the first time for Google to unveil a new platform iteration without a Nexus device but knowing the relationship between the two companies, the report is plausible.
Of course, you need to reach for your salt when reading this. Previously we’ve heard Google I/O and LG rumors and now we’re hearing Motorola, which is also expected to have a brand new UI on the X Phone, claimed to be very much Nexus-like.
