Vizio’s big CES news may be its 10-inch tablet with one of the just-announced NVIDIA Tegra 4 chips, but tablets aren’t the only products the manufacturer has ready to show off. Like so many other OEMs, Vizio’s jumping on the 1080p bandwagon, and plans to release a five-inch 1080p Android, as well as a 4.7-inch 720p handset.
We won’t be seeing Tegra-4-level processing power out of either of these phones, with the five-incher getting a 1.5GHz Qualcomm SoC that’s only dual-core (though exactly which chip, we just don’t know yet), and the 4.7-incher fares even less favorably, outfitted with a 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek component. Even if the specs are a little iffy, build quality is reportedly quite good, resulting in a pair of attractive handsets.
Both phones will allow for microSD expansion, and include slots for dual SIM operation. Initially, Vizio’s only plans for the pair are to launch them in China. There’s always the chance we’ll see them land elsewhere a little further the line, but without LTE support, don’t count on seeing much demand for them in the States.
