Apple sneaks in between all the CES 2013 headlines with its own announcement. With over 775,000 apps for the iPhone and iPad (with 300,000 native iPad apps) Apple’s App Store has reached a new milestone: 40 billion unique downloads (excluding re-downloads and updates) to date, out of which 20 billion alone in 2012. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said that “it has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community”.

“Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world”, added Eddy Cue. Available in 155 countries around the world, Apple’s App Store offers apps and games grouped in 23 categories.
