Regular listeners of our Pocketnow Weekly Podcast can truly say they’ve heard it here first; we mentioned that one way for Apple to improve its mapping offering would be to team up with Foursquare, as one of the largest POI database around, and bring in all the venues, points-of-interest, and locations to Apple Maps.
A Wall Street Journal report quotes “people familiar with the talks” who mention exactly that: Apple allegedly discussing a collaboration with Foursquare looking to bring local data into Apple Maps. Now that Google has released its iOS version of Maps — which has been downloaded over 10 million times in the first two days — Cupertino still has to deliver on its promise to work non-stop, as Tim Cook said, on making Apple Maps a viable option with a great experience.
