“China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products”, said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. Just how eager were customers in China? Two million units is what Apple announced as sales number for the first weekend the latest iPhone was available in the largest mobile market on the planet.
In comparison, five million units were sold in the first weekend of availability in the US. Of course, economically, the Chinese market can’t be directly compared to the American landscape. “Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China,” added Tim Cook.
With China already added to the list of countries where the iPhone 5 is available the total number will reach 100 by the end of December, which, according to Apple, is the fastest iPhone rollout ever.
