Fans of the Android Power User series may well remember us talking about ClockworkMod Recovery and its companion app ROM Manager (which features our detailed walk-through video in its Play Store listing). While the two are invaluable in my mind, there are other choices, most notably TeamWin Recovery, or TWRP for short.
TeamWin Recovery, as you might have guessed by its name, is developed by TeamWin. Their offerings aren’t limited to just TWRP, they have a handful of other apps that you might like as well. TeamWin Recovery is a skinnable, touch-centric custom recovery image that accomplishes much of what Clockwork Mod recovery does, but does so with much more grace and style. Here’s what the developers have to say about it:
Team Win Recovery Project 2.3, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
If you’d like to grab a copy and see for yourself, TWRP can be downloaded for a wide variety of devices here. If you’d like to see just how easy and good-looking it is, hit play!
