New Lightning Adapters Premiering At Today’s Apple Event?

What else can we expect from Apple today besides news of the iPad mini? We’ve heard about the possibility of seeing the rest of the iPad line refreshed, as well, finally implementing Apple’s new Lightning connector. The slimmed-down, reversible interface debuted on the iPhone 5, but following today’s event we could be seeing more of it than ever before. Of course, all your old accessories won’t work without a 30-pin-to-Lightning adapter (and even then, not all will function), so Apple needs to come up with some new Lightning accessories, tailor-made for the new interface. According to one leak, we could be seeing several such Lightning products arrive today.

Just like Apple has its Camera Connection Kit and Digital AV Adapter for 30-pin iOS devices, this leak shows the company about to launch Lightning versions of the same. There should be a Lightning-to-USB adapter, one for reading SD cards, one for connecting VGA monitors, and one for HDMI displays. As we’re used to from Lightning adapters, all are on the expensive side of things; for instance, the old Camera Connection Kit was $30 for both the USB and SD adapters, while now you’d have to pay $60 for the pair, separately.

Beyond the Lightning accessories, Apple may be releasing a new, higher-output AC adapter for the iPad.
