A few days back, we got a glimpse at Huawei’s upcoming Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 handset, looking a bit like a cross between Nokia and HTC designs. While the images were reasonably clear, today we have the opportunity to take an even better look at the W1 thanks to some newly-leaked renders, and we also get news of ZTE’s progress towards its own WP8 hardware.
The new renders are a perfect match for that earlier pic, also showing up in cyan. We wonder if Huawei will have a similar spectrum of alternate color choices to what the other WP8 OEMs are offering. From what we’ve heard this could be one of the most affordable WP8 offerings around when the W1 finally arrives. All signs have been pointing to the phone hitting the market before the end of the year.
As for ZTE, the company teased fans with a WP8 (or maybe WP7.8) pic last month, but we’ve largely been in the dark as to what we could expect. Any info on a ZTE WP8 handset’s hardware continues to elude us, but a company spokesperson recently confirmed to reporters in Italy that it intends to release its first Windows Phone 8 model sometime in the first quarter of next year.
