Fans of ruggedized smartphones may remember the Casio G’zOne Commando, which arrived at Verizon last year. Phones have come a long way since then, and it’s finally time to upgrade from that model’s aging 800MHz SoC. Today we get news of a new G’zOne coming to Japan, as well as see signs that a similar model may be in the works for Verizon.
The G’zOne TYPE-L (above, right) has a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, eight-megapixel camera, and four-inch WVGA display. Japan’s getting it on carrier KDDi, but what about the chances for seeing it come to the States?
Some new FCC docs contain the certification paperwork for Casio model C811 (above, left), and from the included illustrations, it’s obvious this is a G’zOne model. Its rounded top edge makes it clear that this is something different from the TYPE-L, and mention of support for Verizon’s LTE band 13 spells out just where this phone is headed.
While we lack any insight into the C811′s hardware, beyond seeing that it supports microSD, it seems likely that the handset will be similar to Japan’s TYPE-L.
