Android 4.2 ROM Reveals New Quick Settings Menu
While the first leaked pics we saw of the LG Nexus 4 revealed the handset to be running Android 4.1.2, apparently some of these in-testing units feature Android 4.2 instead, and the guys at Android Police managed to get themselves a copy of just such a ROM. As they look through it, they’re revealing some of the new changes in store for us, and today take a look at a new “Quick Settings” interface.
This is clearly a work in progress, as spelled-out by the image above. That’s an actual file from the 4.2 dump, included as a placeholder graphic until the code is complete. Android Police asked the source which provided them this dump to provide a little insight, and he responded with the video below.
As you can see, there’s a dual-downward-swipe gesture needed to access the Quick Settings interface, swiping again after first getting to the notification screen. Presumably, this will give users quick access to WiFi, airplane mode, and the other device settings already present in some Android UIs.
That sounds like a welcome change, though we’re not quite sure how intuitive the double-swipe-down gesture will be to use. From the looks of things, though, there’s still a good deal of work to be done, so perhaps Google might tweak how you access Quick Settings between now and when Android 4.2 launches.
