Remember those pics of Microsoft Office running on an iPad (above) that surfaced in the early part of 2012? Microsoft hemmed and hawed at the leak, saying that the rumors surrounding it contained “bad info”, but was less than totally forthcoming. Later, we heard that Microsoft might be planning to release the app, along with an Android version, sometime this fall. That may not be coming to pass, after all, but some new info suggests that Microsoft could have a release scheduled for March of next year.
According to a press release prepared by Microsoft’s Czech division, Office 2013 will be coming to Android, iOS, and Symbian platforms. It mentions that these mobile versions of Office will begin arriving in March 2013, but it’s not clear if everything will be dropping at once, or if we’ll see some mobile editions launch before others.
That’s an annoying wait, especially if you were counting on those rumors that we’d see Office arriving any day now. Microsoft doesn’t really need to be in any rush, though, as it can almost certainly count on huge interest in Office for mobile devices whenever it arrives, banking just on the Office name alone.
