Samsung has announced the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III in its home market; though it is for model SHW-M440S variant which is a South Korean model, the official refresh can’t come soon enough. We already heard reports of the platform upgrade being rolled out in some countries of Europe but for the most part Galaxy S IIIs are stuck on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The announcement mentions the KIES application even though the firmware should also be available OTA. If you have that specific model make sure to check for its existence. While we applaud Samsung’s homeland patriotism in terms of the refresh we’d rather more appreciate an international/global device roll-out.
