Sony’s plan to differentiate from the crowd has just taken off. Right on schedule, the company has just launched the PlayStation Mobile initiative that they announced recently. The idea is that this will be a cross-platform mobile gaming service where users can buy a game once on the PlayStation Store, and play it on select Android smartphones or tablets as well as in Sony’s new PS Vita.
The way this works is very similar to how you can purchase an app in the Google Play Store and the app is available across all the devices that share your same Google account, except here everything will be tied-up to your PlayStation Network ID. The service is currently only available for Japan, the United States, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia, but more countries have been confirmed to follow.
At launch the list of games is a bit scarce maxing at 20, but these include Super Crate Box, Wipe!, Revel, Hungry Giraffe, Samurai Beatdown, Beats Slider, Numblast, and Everybody’s Arcade. The list of compatible PlayStation Certified devices includes:
