After a very bumpy start (to say the least) for Apple’s own mapping solution inside iOS 6 (and on the iPhone 5), users are waiting eagerly for an official Google Maps application to ease the pain. Until Apple fixes the terrible experience, iPhone 5 users can also wait for a Google Maps port for iOS 6.
Eric Schmidt, Google’s Executive Chairman, recently said that the Mountain View-based company has made no plans in terms of a dedicated Maps application for the iPhone 5 (iOS 6). “We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call”, Schmidt added.
While Google has not done anything yet, according to the executive, and while there were discussions between the companies at all levels, accepting a future possible Google Maps app in the Apple iTunes AppStore is Apple’s decision. ”I’m not doing any predictions. We want them to be our partner. We welcome that. I’m not going to speculate at all what they’re going to do. They can answer that question as they see fit,” Schmidt concluded.
