Somewhere along the line, despite mountains of competition, Angry Birds arrived as the iconic smartphone game of its generation. While it’s since spread to consoles and computers, the title and its sequels have continued to find a prominent place on many of our phones and tablets. Love it or hate it, there’s no denying its success. Last week, we caught wind of a rumor that Rovio might be working on changing things around for a new spin-off, finally putting you in control of the pigs you’ve been fighting against this whole time. Now, Rovio has made the title official, as well as set a release date.

Bad Piggies will launch later this month on September 27. That’s the day the app will be released for Android, iOS, and Mac computers. Rovio has also confirmed that Microsoft fans won’t be ignored, and versions for Windows Phone, Windows 8, and older PCs will be following in the near future.

The big question is still just what kind of game will this be. Rovio describes it as having a “totally new and unique gameplay experience”, but doesn’t go into any detail. For now, your guess is as good as ours; hopefully, we’ll get a glimpse at a gameplay video in the coming weeks.
