September is rapidly becoming ground-zero for smartphone and tablet launch events. We’ve got Nokia, Motorola, Amazon, and now Apple all confirmed. You can add HTC to that list, as well, upon the manufacturer distributing save-the-dates to an event it’s throwing on September 19.
Unlike the Nokia or Motorola events, this one is being promoted as HTC-only; there’s no obvious carrier nor platform connection. That makes it a little more difficult for us to suss out what the company might be planning to reveal, but we can make a few guesses.
We’ve heard rumors of three Windows Phone 8 handsets in the works from HTC, and the timing sounds right for them to be announced sometime this month. That may be the safe bet, but there’s also this rumor about a 1080p Android handset that keeps coming back around; perhaps HTC is interested in being first out of the gate with just such a model.
At the bottom of these invites, there’s an odd design we don’t quite recognize (below). Could this be a clue as to what HTC has planned? It almost looks like the lens for a camera next to an LED flash. Any guesses what HTC might be thinking here?
