We first heard of the HTC Proto back at the start of August, where rumors pegged the phone as sort of a “One V+” with a slightly larger display and upgraded processor. Now a press render of the supposed Proto has leaked, and even if it’s to be the spiritual successor to the One V, it sure doesn’t look a lot like the existing handset.
This design is far more rounded than the generally squared-off One V, as well as appears to lack the model’s distinctive “chin”. As a result of those changes, the phone’s screen takes up a much more substantial portion of the handset’s face, though the capacitive Android buttons remain.
Around back, there’s a different camera orientation than the One V; the impression we’re getting from all of this is that while the Proto may share several specs with the One V, they seem to have quite different actual hardware. Depending on your thoughts about that handset, that could be either a good or a bad thing, but based on the rumors we’ve heard about HTC’s struggles, trying anything different sounds like a good idea at this point.
