Just a couple of days before the jury begins deliberating over the Apple vs. Samsung patent lawsuit, Apple’s Tim Cook and Samsung’s recently appointed Oh-Hyun Kwon will discuss the whole soap opera over the phone, and yeah, we could all assume that each will use the phones that are fighting to win.
An interesting note about this event is that there’s a back-story to the relationship of both CEOs. It turns out that they’ve both worked together in the past, since Oh-Hyun Kwon led Samsung’s components business responsible for building many of the chips that power most of Apple’s products, just before being appointed CEO last June. Tim Cook, Apple’s then COO, was in charge of securing the gigantic number of components needed to meet product demands, so it’s clear that both gentlemen got along quite well.
Sadly, we all know that even though the relationship factor was positive, previous talks about this subject remained inconclusive and leading to the trial we’ve all bought popcorn to enjoy. Judge Lucy Koh is said to be “pathologically optimistic” over the possible results of it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that one company will like the results as much as the other. Hopefully today’s talks help in some way, but I don’t think this means that the trial will be settled before a verdict.
