September 5 is starting to shape-up to be quite the big day for smartphone news. First, we learned that Nokia and Microsoft would be holding a press event that morning, presumably to reveal some of the first Windows Phone 8 models. Now Motorola and Verizon are sending out a save-the-date of their own, announcing a joint press event for that afternoon.
Those two names together have us really hoping that this could be the day they finally announce the Droid RAZR HD. That model’s been the subject of a number of leaks so far, but there has yet to be any official word on the phone. Last week, when Motorola played a little guessing game with Facebook users, we thought it might end up unveiling the RAZR HD, but quickly learned that wouldn’t be the case.
There have been a couple rumors looking to the phone arriving in October or November, but maybe Motorola and Verizon are considering moving up the phone’s timetable, or perhaps just plan to announce the phone and not release it for another few weeks, as was the case with HTC’s Droid Incredible 4G LTE on the carrier.
Of course, this might not be the RAZR HD at all, but we’re itching to see that one finally unveiled, so we’ve got our fingers crossed.
